One of the first things you will want to do as a new Hackystat developer is subscribe to one or more of the existing Hackystat mailing lists. Subscribing is useful because it will enable you to post questions, and also become aware of changes to the system. There are four mailing lists, all hosted by the University of Hawaii listserv system.
This is a very low volume mailing list, approximately 1-2 emails per month, that is used almost exclusively to announce new stable releases of the system. Philip Johnson is basically the only developer who posts to this mailing list, as he currently has the job of making new stable releases. As a developer, you do not need to subscribe to this mailing list, since it does not provide useful developer-related information, and all of the emails to this list are cc'd to the hackystat-users-l and hackystat-dev-l lists.

This is currently a pretty low volume mailing list although it may start to see increasing activity over the next year. It is a mailing list intended to allow users of Hackystat to post questions and obtain answers from other users (or developers) of Hackystat. As a developer, it is useful to subscribe to this mailing list, since users may be asking questions related to the features you have implemented in the system.

This is the primary mailing list for Hackystat developers, and is moderately high volume, usually around 1-5 emails per day. All active Hackystat developers should subscribe to this mailing list. All Hackystat developers are free to post questions and requests to this list, as well as reply to postings made by other developers. If the question concerns the use of a Hackystat feature, then it may be better to post (or cross-post) to hackystat-users-l.

This is a high volume mailing list whose postings are auto-generated by our Subversion repository. Each email provides information about a single commit to the repository. It is important for internal Hackystat developers (those working on the public modules) to subscribe to this list, since it gives you a good idea about what is changing in the public repository and also helps you to remember to write SVN log messages in the Hackystat style. External developers are welcome to subscribe to this list as well, and may also find it useful for keeping track of the latest changes to the system.
This list is not archived.
To subscribe to any of these lists, email a standard listserv subscription request to listserv@hawaii.edu. In other words, the "Subject" line is ignored, and the body should contain a line similar to:
subscribe hackystat-users-l Philip Johnson
Of course, you will replace 'hackystat-users-l' with the mailing list you are interested in, and 'Philip Johnson' with your own first and last name. If you wish to subscribe to more than one list, just put each 'subscribe' command on its own line.
If you wish to remove yourself from a hackystat mailing list, then send an email to listserv@hawaii.edu with a line in the body similar to the following:
signoff hackystat-users-l
Be sure to send the signoff command from the same email address used to subscribe to the list.
You can also subscribe and unsubscribe from any of these lists using the web-based interface to the University of Hawaii ListServ system.
