Upon invoking HackyInstaller for the first time, your first task is to provide a verified Hackystat host and key. By default, HackyInstaller supplies a valid Hackystat host (http://hackystat.ics.hawaii.edu), but if you wish to send data to a server other than the public Hackystat server, you must change the value of this field.
By default, the Hackystat user key is "ChangeThisToYourKey", which is definitely not valid. To fix this, you must obtain a Hackystat user key from your Hackystat server and supply it in the "Hackystat Key" field on the HackyInstaller main page. Chapter Chapter 3, Server-side configuration: User account registration and preferences explains how to register with the Hackystat server, after which the server emails a Hackystat user key to you.
Figure 2.3, “ Verification of the Hackystat host and key ” illustrates the results after changing the Hackystat key field value to a valid key and pressing "Verify Hackystat Host/Key".
This figure illustrates a situation in which the user provided "kjdh626fgrt" as their user key in the "Hackystat Host/Key Setup" pane and then pressed the "Verify Hackystat Host/Key" button. The last two entries of the "Status Log" pane show that the supplied host and key are now valid, and that the sensor.properties file has been updated with this information.

It is important to always press the "Verify Hackystat Host/Key" button after supplying a new Hackystat host or key value, because (in addition to checking their validity), it saves those values into the sensor.properties file where they can be found in future by Hackystat sensors and by HackyInstaller. | |
Now that you've downloading HackyInstaller and verified your host and key, the next section shows you how to download and install sensors.
